Late Sunday night, residents in Northfield reported smoke in the 300 block of Eaton Street. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke throughout the area, but the source was unclear. As crews walked the block, the engineer drove the truck to the next street and discovered thick smoke coming from a one-story brick ranch-style home at 344 Wagner Road.

The incident was escalated to a Code 4 working fire, and Northfield crews quickly responded. Mutual aid units from Winnetka, Northbrook, Glenview, Glencoe, and Wilmette arrived to assist. The fire was brought under control relatively fast, though no one was inside the home at the time. Tragically, the family dog did not survive the blaze.
