MARE ISLAND, Calif., July 10, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — Factory_OS, a trailblazer in redefining home construction by delivering affordable and sustainable multifamily housing while creating jobs and driving innovation, has secured strategic investments from two major industry leaders: Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) and Citi (NYSE: C). These partnerships aim to tackle the escalating affordable housing crisis in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
The collaboration marks a significant step forward for Factory_OS as it expands its mission to revolutionize the way homes are built. With the support of Autodesk, the company is set to develop the Factory Floor Learning Center, a dedicated space for education and research on industrialized construction methods. This initiative will be led by the Terner Center for Housing Innovation and will explore how public policy can be adjusted to maximize the benefits of modular building techniques.
In addition to this, the investment will help establish a new Rapid Response Factory, designed to meet urgent housing needs following natural disasters and emergencies. This facility will also serve as a testing ground for advanced machining technologies, further enhancing the efficiency and scalability of Factory_OS’s approach.
Citi’s involvement comes through its Spread Products Investment Technologies (SPRINT) initiative within the ICG division, which was launched in 2018 to engage with emerging technology partners. The bank’s Community Capital unit is also supporting the project, leveraging its extensive experience in financing affordable housing and community development initiatives. In 2018 alone, Citi provided over $6 billion in lending for affordable rental housing, reinforcing its position as the nation's top lender in this sector for the ninth consecutive year.
Rick Holliday, CEO of Factory_OS, expressed his gratitude for the support, stating, “Autodesk and Citi are playing a critical role in our continued growth and expansion. We’re proud to stand alongside two companies that share our vision for transforming the construction industry and are deeply committed to addressing the housing crisis not just in our region, but across the country.â€
Andrew Anagnost, CEO of Autodesk, added, “Factory_OS is leading the charge in modular homebuilding, making affordable housing in cities a reality. We’re honored to support their mission, in partnership with Citi, to provide families with safe and affordable homes. Our ongoing collaboration has the potential to become a powerful solution to the nationwide housing shortage.â€
Matt Zhang, Head of Spread Products Investment Technologies at Citi, emphasized the importance of innovation in affordable housing, saying, “Addressing one of the nation’s most pressing challenges requires creative solutions. We’re excited to be part of this journey and believe that together with Factory_OS, we can drive meaningful change in meeting the demand for safe, high-quality affordable housing.â€
