Savor a Simple Thanksgiving Feast

7-minute read | Cooking Tips

The greatest holiday of the nation, in our view, is just around the corner. We're not jumping straight into Christmas decorations here at the AEI Corporation—first, we want to fully enjoy and celebrate Thanksgiving. It’s a cherished family tradition that has been passed down through generations. It’s a time to express gratitude, strengthen family bonds, and teach children what truly matters in life.

With that in mind, we’ve poured a lot of love and effort into ensuring our PGS A Series grills are not only powerful and durable but also beautiful and reliable. No matter whether you opt for a liquid propane or natural gas-powered grill, you can trust that you’re getting a grill made in the USA. It’s the perfect outdoor tool to enhance your Thanksgiving celebrations and keep the spirit of giving alive.

PGS A Series grills are designed for all-year-round grilling. They feature weather-resistant components and multiple storage solutions, so you can use them even in harsh weather conditions if you have a partially enclosed patio. Additionally, they offer versatile mounting and installation options, making maintenance a breeze.

Thanksgiving Smoked Turkey Drumsticks with PGS A Series Grills

Considering everything above, we decided to share our favorite smoked turkey drumstick recipe to make this year’s Thanksgiving extra special. Thanksgiving is all about gathering with friends, family, and good food—but let’s not forget that it can sometimes feel overwhelming. Many find themselves stressed due to limited kitchen space. Adding a PGS A Series grill to your setup can significantly increase your cooking capacity and introduce more variety to your meal plan.

This smoked turkey drumstick recipe has been slightly adapted from TasteOfHome.com to match our grilling preferences. Over time, you’ll be able to personalize it and bring a unique touch to your Thanksgiving dishes. Here’s the original recipe for reference:

Thanksgiving Smoked Turkey Drumsticks

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons of sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons of garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons of seasoned salt
  • 1 and ¼ teaspoons of paprika
  • 1 and ½ teaspoon of ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of crushed pepper
  • ½ teaspoon of dried basil
  • ½ teaspoon of Cayenne pepper
  • 2 turkey drumsticks (1 & ½ pounds each)
  • 3 cups of soaked applewood chips

Seasoning & Smoking Notes

Our recipe is about twice as spicy as the original Taste of Home version. We doubled the pepper and used ground pepper for a richer flavor. The Cayenne pepper was increased by 25%. For a milder version, stick to the original recipe, but we highly recommend using crushed peppercorns instead of regular pepper. For a medium spiciness, adjust the ingredients accordingly.

Applewood smoke chips, as recommended in both the original and our version, provide a light, fruity, and delicate smokiness to the meat. While they’re perfect for the season, feel free to experiment with other flavors to suit your taste. Consider these alternatives:

  • Cherry: a mild, sweet flavor
  • Peach: a mild, sweet flavor, and a southern favorite
  • Maple: mild and sweet with a robust touch
  • Pecan: another holiday favorite, slightly spicy and bold
  • Ash: a sweet and nutty flavor that pairs well with the holiday

For a more traditional BBQ flavor, try:

  • Alder: adds a subtle, musky character to the meat
  • Mesquite: a strong flavor that’s always a crowd-pleaser
  • Hickory: a classic BBQ flavor that never disappoints
  • Oak: a medium to heavy flavor that’s both comforting and rich

Instructions

1. Mix the first nine ingredients in a small bowl and add melted butter. Brush the mixture onto the turkey drumsticks and let them rest for four minutes.

2. Add your chosen wood chips to the grill (See Making a Smoking Packet below). Place the turkey drumsticks on the grill rack. Grill over indirect medium heat, covered, for 40 to 45 minutes. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature, removing them when they reach 175 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn the drumsticks every four to six minutes during cooking.

Making a SMOKING PACKET

Take a piece of heavy-duty aluminum foil and place a handful of soaked wood chips in the center. Wrap the foil around the chips and poke a few holes in the top with a knife or fork to let the smoke escape. Place the packet over direct heat.

No Thanksgiving feast is complete without cranberry sauce.

Cranberry Sauce Recipe

  • 1 lb fresh cranberries
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 3 whole star anise

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat on your PGS Grill Side Burner. Simmer for 10 minutes uncovered. Discard the star anise. Cool and serve.

100% Bio-based Polyhydroxyalkanoates PHA Marine Degradation Polymer

The biocompatibility and biodegradability of PHA enable it to be used as implant materials, including tissue engineering materials and drug-controlled release vectors. This characteristic can also be used in agriculture to wrap fertilizer or pesticide carriers, so that the wrapped substance is slowly released in the process of slow degradation of PHA, so as to maintain long-term fertilizer or drug efficacy, while reducing the amount of medicine, extending the action time, and protecting the long-term plantability of cultivated land. The monomers that make up PHA are chiral, and they are intermediates in the chemical synthesis of many drugs and have high value-added applications. Many different chiral monomers can be obtained by synthesis and degradation of PHA in vivo.
With the further development of strain screening methods, more and more strains that can synthesize new PHA have been discovered, so new PHA materials have been synthesized. However, at present, the technological improvement of microbial synthesis of PHA is far behind the development of new PHA materials.
Biomaterials occupy a very important position in tissue engineering, and tissue engineering also raises questions and points out the development direction of biomaterials. Since traditional artificial organs (such as artificial kidney and liver) do not have biological functions (metabolism, synthesis), and can only be used as auxiliary therapeutic devices, the research on tissue engineered artificial organs with biological functions has attracted wide attention around the world. Three elements are needed to build a tissue-engineered artificial organ, namely "seed" cells, scaffold materials, and cell growth factors. Recently, the use of stem cells as seed cells to construct artificial organs has become a hot topic due to their ability to differentiate. Tissue engineering has made some breakthrough achievements in artificial skin, artificial cartilage, artificial nerve, artificial liver and so on, showing a good application prospect.
The combination of biotechnology and chemical synthesis methods can obtain some new materials that can not be obtained by chemical or biological methods alone or that are too expensive to manufacture by chemical synthesis, especially some materials with special properties, such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, optical activity, piezoelectricity, electrical conductivity and high stability of materials. The research and development of these new materials requires the cooperation of experts in the fields of materials, polymers, chemistry, medicine, electronics, physics, microbiology, molecular biology, fermentation engineering and chemical engineering, and even the participation of industry in order to produce results and get new materials with real market application prospects.
