Autodesk Makes Virtual Reality More Accessible to Architects and Designers
Back in July, Autodesk introduced Autodesk LIVE for Revit, which revolutionized the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industries by bringing "on-demand" interactivity to these fields. LIVE is a groundbreaking, cloud-based tool that transforms your Revit model into an immersive, interactive experience—just by clicking a single button. Instead of merely viewing your designs, LIVE allows you to truly experience them.

Now, with the latest update to LIVE, which is currently in beta, two clicks will take you straight into virtual reality (VR). The first click sends your Revit model to the LIVE cloud service, where it’s transformed into an interactive environment. The second click activates the VR mode directly within the LIVE editor or viewer.
This means you can now explore your architectural designs in VR effortlessly—without needing any coding skills or waiting around. It’s designed to be both accessible and budget-friendly for architects, virtual designers, and construction professionals looking to incorporate VR into their workflows. All you need is a setup compatible with either HTC Vive or Oculus Rift, and you're good to go.
For anyone familiar with creating VR content, this development is significant. Autodesk continues to empower architects and virtual design professionals by allowing them to step inside their own creations and share their visions more effectively. At the same time, this move supports a more inclusive and democratic approach to design.
Early feedback from beta testers has been encouraging. Andrew Malanoski from Eppstein Uhen Architects shared how his firm's workflow might soon shift. He explained that after showing one of the firm's owners how to use the VR controller, the owner quickly adapted and began navigating through the model effortlessly. Before long, the owner was already conducting real-time design critiques. Impressed, the owner suggested showcasing this VR experience to clients—and sure enough, the client was thoroughly impressed.
Taylor Cupp, a technologist at Mortenson Construction, mentioned that clients started discussing spatial relationships and functionality in ways they hadn't before. The team also identified potential issues they wouldn’t have noticed without the VR tools provided by LIVE.
We’re excited to hear more stories like these as the updated LIVE beta reaches the broader Revit community. Why is it still in beta? Simply put, we want to gather crucial insights from power users before making VR widely available to everyone. Your feedback matters! Learn more about how to participate in the feedback process [here](#).
Existing LIVE subscribers already have access to the VR beta features starting today. New users can sign up for a monthly subscription, and we’ve even extended the free trial period to 30 days. So, why not dive into one of your current Revit projects using VR in this beta version? Even if you've tried the trial before, don't worry—we’ve reset the system to let all Revit users test out these exciting VR capabilities.
It’s an incredible moment for those who love immediate results!

This new development opens doors for countless professionals in the AEC industry, making VR more accessible than ever before. Whether you’re an architect, designer, or construction specialist, Autodesk LIVE is proving itself as a game-changer in how we visualize and interact with our workspaces.
