After testing and installing 300 LED street lights in Kolkata, India, LED lighting will be fully promoted throughout the city. It is expected that luminaires worth 300,000 rupees (about RMB 30,200) will be installed next year. Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) participated in the global LED outdoor lighting test organized by the Climate Group (TCG) from 2011 to 2012. In the test, LED lamps were used to replace the high-pressure sodium lamps on a major section of the city of Calcutta, and 52 energy savings were successfully achieved. The LED lighting replacement project in Kolkata will be funded jointly by the Energy Efficiency Agency and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, possibly through an energy service company or an energy service company (ESCO).
