I recently came across this listing for a classic 1967 Crown Fire Coach Snorkel F-1535 that's up for sale in Chilhowie, Virginia. It’s quite the piece of fire history! The truck has an impressive 85-foot extendable ladder, powered by a reliable 8V71 Detroit engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. It looks like it’s been well-maintained with fresh paint and good tires.
This firefighting legend has had quite the journey. Originally purchased by Deerfield-Brannockburn in Illinois, it was sold to Black River Falls, Wisconsin back in 1984. Then in 1997, it made its way down south to Chilhowie, Virginia where it also served the Glade Spring Fire Department. Interestingly, it seems to have found its way back to Chilhowie now, currently owned by Brent Foster.
If you're a fan of vintage firefighting equipment or just looking for something unique, this could be your chance to own a slice of history. The asking price is $12,500, which feels reasonable given its condition and historical significance.
There are some great photos included in the listing. One shows the Snorkel in action during its days serving Glade Spring, while another captures it when it was still with Deerfield-Brannockburn. They really bring the truck's story to life.
For those interested, you can reach out directly to Zac Foster at 276-706-0220. Whether you're a collector, museum, or someone who just loves classic vehicles, this fire truck would make an amazing addition to any fleet or display.
Let me know if you'd like more details—I’m happy to help dig deeper into its history or provide additional photos. It’s always exciting to see these old beauties find new homes!
P.S. Big thanks to Danny for sharing those awesome images. They really capture the essence of this incredible piece of fire history.
