Steve Redick captured a series of powerful images from the 2-11 alarm fire that took place last night at 1896 N. Milwaukee Avenue. His photo gallery, filled with dramatic and insightful shots, can be viewed [here](#). These images offer a rare look into the intense efforts of firefighters responding to a challenging structure fire.
In one photo, Squad 2’s Snorkel is positioned in Sector 1, using its bucket to reach a small window in a vacant building to apply water directly onto the fire. The image highlights the unique tactics used when access is limited.
Another shot shows thick smoke pouring from the building as firefighters deploy a hand line and elevated master streams to contain the blaze. This scene captures the chaos and urgency of the situation.
A third image features members of Squad 2 using a thermal imager to locate the fire's seat through heavy smoke. The building had very limited access, making the operation even more difficult.
Engine 30 is seen connecting to a hydrant with two lengths of hard suction hose at the south end of the block, ensuring a steady water supply for the firefighting efforts.
An Air Mask Unit was also on site, providing critical support by replacing used air cylinders for the crews working inside the building. This unit plays a vital role in maintaining firefighter safety during extended operations.
Finally, a shot shows Squad 2 waiting for the fire to burn through the roof, which would allow the Snorkel’s master stream to operate above the structure. This strategic move demonstrates the careful planning involved in such complex incidents.
These photos provide a compelling visual record of the bravery and coordination required to manage a large-scale fire like this one.
