Berwyn experienced a box alarm this afternoon at 2311 Harvey Street. The first responding unit reported heavy smoke and visible flames coming from a two-story bungalow. Mutual aid units arrived from Stickney, Cicero, North Riverside, and Forest Park to assist. Josh Boyajian was on the scene shortly after the initial engine and observed significant smoke and fire on the second floor. He captured several photos documenting the incident.
As the fire spread quickly, crews worked efficiently to contain the blaze. The Seagrave aerial was positioned in the 'A Sector' with its main ladder extended, allowing for a better vantage point and water delivery. Heavy smoke was visible upon arrival, indicating that the fire had already gained significant strength inside the structure.
Firefighters deployed ladders to the second floor to position hand lines and attack the fire from within. As the situation escalated, the roof began to vent, with flames breaking through the A-D corner of the building. Crews continued to work aggressively to prevent the fire from spreading further.
