At the Accelerate 2016 conference in Boston, Autodesk made a major announcement that marked a turning point for product innovation. The company unveiled a groundbreaking cloud-based Product Data Management (PDM) solution integrated directly into Fusion Lifecycle, making it the first-ever end-to-end cloud PLM platform available on the market.
This new feature brings together the entire product development lifecycle—from initial concept to final delivery—offering a unified, cloud-native environment for engineers and product teams. Whether working at a global enterprise or a small startup, users now have access to a seamless, all-in-one platform that eliminates the need to switch between multiple tools and systems.
Fusion Lifecycle has been designed to simplify design data management, offering intuitive version control, real-time collaboration, and streamlined workflows. With the addition of Cloud PDM, teams can manage CAD files, track revisions, and connect with manufacturing processes—all within a single, user-friendly interface.
"Having used Fusion Lifecycle for over a year, we've seen significant improvements in our development process," said Brian Hunter, Quality Control Manager at NovaCentrix. "But this new PDM integration is exactly what we needed. A full cloud-based PLM solution will really boost our efficiency."
In addition to PDM, Autodesk also announced future enhancements to its Fusion portfolio. One such feature is Dynamic Predictive Analytics through Fusion Connect, powered by Nutonian’s AI-driven Eureqa engine. This technology helps manufacturers make sense of the massive volumes of IoT data, enabling accurate predictions and actionable insights that drive smarter decision-making.
Another upcoming addition is Fusion Configure, which will bring powerful CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) capabilities to the platform. This tool is set to revolutionize how manufacturers handle complex, customizable products, allowing them to generate quotes and manage configurations in minutes.
All these updates are part of Autodesk's broader vision to transform the way products are designed, manufactured, and managed. By leveraging the cloud, the Fusion platform offers flexibility, scalability, and cost-efficiency—without the burden of on-premise hardware or expensive upgrades.
As Lisa Campbell, Vice President of Manufacturing Industry Strategy and Marketing at Autodesk, stated: “We’re committed to making product development faster, simpler, and more efficient. Today’s advancements in the Fusion platform are helping us and our customers move closer to a future where innovation is seamless and accessible to all.â€
